Arizona Republic columnist Jon Talton is a fourth-generation Arizonan, who returned to Phoenix in 2000. He was an award-winning journalist in San Diego, Denver, Dayton, Cincinnati, and Charlotte. Over 20 years he has specialized in covering regional and urban economies, as well as the banking, auto and oil industries. His columns have been carried in newpapaers throughout North America, and he has been a regular guest on CNBC.

Mr. Talton is the author of six novels, including the David Mapstone mysteries, which are set in Arizona. His novel, "Dry Heat," is due out this summer from St. Martin's Press. Before writing for a living, Mr. Talton worked four years as an ambulance medic in the inner city of Phoenix. He also taught for two years at a small college in Oklahoma. He and his wife Susan live in Phoenix's Willo historic district, where Jon grew up.
